TRILLIUM HEALTH PARTNERS (MISSISSAUGA SITES)

This information is meant to help guide you. If you have any questions, please make sure to ask your site directors.

You may be placed at: 

Credit Valley Hospital (CVH) - 6 weeks 

Mississauga Hospital (MH) - 6 weeks 

Etobicoke General Hospital (EGH) - 3 weeks, and CVH - 3 weeks 

CLINICS

INFORMATION/TIPS

  • Email the preceptor to let them know you will be joining them and to ask when/where the clinic will take place, preferably 2 days ahead of time to give them time to respond

    • All staff emails can be found in the THP global address book 

  • Let the preceptor know you will join later if there is a seminar in the morning 

  • Depending on how early you are in your clerkship year, and the type of clinic you are placed in (listed below), your role and independence will vary


DETAILS

  • Storage: preceptor’s office, student lounge in 0A-106 (flower elevator only)

  • Lunch: microwave in student lounge or food courts (atrium or level 1)

  • Dress code: Scrubs 

  • Start time: variable, confirm with the preceptor through email

  • Notes: on EPIC, depends on the clinic and preceptor 


LOCATIONS

  • High Risk Clinic: Valley House (building beside CVH hospital)

  • Gyne Oncology Clinic: CVH, Cancer Centre/Ambulatory Care area 

  • Early Pregnancy Clinic and Colposcopy Clinic: CVH 1B-1888

  • Colposcopy Clinic Queensway: Day Surgery


GYNE

INFORMATION/TIPS

  • Connect with your preceptor beforehand to confirm OR day *due to COVID-19 pandemic there can be changes to the OR schedule

  • If you will be in the OR and there’s a seminar at 8am: notify your preceptor and try to introduce yourself to the patient before you start seminar if there is time (in the pre-op area if the OR has not started yet) 

  • Never do a pelvic exam on an unconscious patient in the OR if you did not meet them previously – unless given express permission by the team 

  • Write your name, level of training (CC3), and glove size on the whiteboard in the OR. Grab your gloves and gown and hand them to the scrub nurses before the case starts (or sterilely if the case has begun)

  • CVH Storage: student lounge in 0A-106 (flower elevator only)

  • MH Storage: lockers in medical learner on call room in 0J

  • EGH Storage: locker assigned to student on 4th floor

  • Lunch: microwave in student lounge in CVH 0A-106 (flower elevator only), MH medical learner on-call room in 0J or food courts (CVH atrium or level 1, MH ground floor)

  • Dress code: scrubs

  • Start time: 7:45am

  • Access OR list the day before through EPIC snapboard or check the printed list in the main OR board (posted end of the day)

  • EGH: Access patient paper charts on the day of the surgery


LOCATIONS

  • CVH Gyne Onc PRCC - 1st floor 

  • CVH Gyne Onc OR - 3rd floor, surgery 

  • MH Gyne OR: MH level 2

  • EGH: First floor, in front of Tim Hortons

L&D

​

INFORMATION/TIPS

  • Write your name, level of training (CC3), and phone number on the whiteboard at the nursing station and at triage 

  • Useful to exchange phone numbers with the resident and/or preceptor at the beginning of the shift

  • Always introduce yourself to the patient before you attend their delivery; check in with the preceptor if you did not get a chance to do so before the patient started pushing 

  • Components: vaginal/cesarean deliveries on L&D, assessing patients in triage; seeing consults from ED

  • Always bring back-up socks! (you may be splashed with bodily fluids)

  • If you know the resident on your team for the day, let them know you will join later if there is a seminar in the morning. If you don’t know, it is fine to find them after and explain that you were at teaching

  • Grab yourself an extra gown and gloves prior to a delivery, the items set out in the patient room are typically reserved for the staff and the resident if there is one present

  • Storage: student lounge in CVH 0A-106 (flower elevator only) or call rooms

  • Call rooms: CVH 1A-133A (this one is closer to birthing suites) or 1G-870 on Level 1 hear Rehab Unit (both hospital ID badge access); MH medical learner on call rooms in 0J or call room located in L&D

  • Lunch: microwave in student lounge in CVH 0A-106 (flower elevator only), MH medical learner on call room in 0J or food courts (CVH atrium or level 1, MH ground floor) 

  • Dress code: Scrubs 

  • Start time: 8:00-17:00, or 17:00-8:00 if overnight call

  • Notes:

    • Triage: OB Progress Note (full note format)

  • EGH: Write name (+ cell + glove size) on whiteboard in the morning (typically 8). During the day also stop by Early Pregnancy Clinic and other clinic


LOCATIONS

  • Birthing suites and triage (labour assessment unit): level 3 (meet your preceptor and resident on birthing suites in main nurses’ area where handover is done)

  • EGH: 4th floor – L&D, EPC clinic, clinic

CALL 

SEE ABOVE NOTES FOR L&D. ADDITIONAL INFO BELOW:

  • Call is always on L&D  

  • Start time: 8:00-17:00, or 17:00-8:00 if overnight call

  • Call rooms tip: get a call room sooner rather than later, sometimes there are none left! 

  • Not required to attend seminar post-call
